The Power of a Trip

By Alan Meneely

It is a special thing when you find something that touches your heart and awakens your passion. When I went to Romania for the first time I found more than I expected. I went on the trip to gather information about the work of Remember the Children so I could share it with my church.

To be honest, I had never been that interested in being involved in missions. I certainly supported missions and missionaries, but going on a mission trip was never a high priority. But, as he often does, God brought an experience into my life that changed my way of thinking.

That first Christmas trip (and every trip since) brought so many amazing experiences. I have met and prayed with some fantastic church leaders who partner with Remember the Children. I have shared meals with some wonderful Christian people. I have enjoyed the joyful reactions of children as they receive a Christmas present.

The very best experience of all has been the time spent with the child we sponsor. Every game, every smile, every hug is etched in my memory. I never would have thought a one-week trip could have made such a large impact, but God used that trip to open my eyes and heart to a new passion. I am thankful to Andy Baker and Remember the Children for providing the opportunity to be a part of the ministry in Romania. I look forward to the future of this ministry in Romania, and I hope to one day be able to experience the ministry that is taking place in Tanzania.
